INNER CIRCLE

1 Samuel 22:1-2, “When his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him. And everyone who was in debt, and everyone was discontented gathered to him. SO he became captain over them.”

You might consider my using the passage to illustrate this point a real stretch. But, I believe what made David a great leader, besides the fact that he was a man after God’s own heart, was those he surrounded himself with.

David was surrounded by surrounded by quality people (true friends) way before he became a great leader. And, his followers would not have made anyone’s top ten of most influential people. Some of them were misfits. Under David’s leadership his team was transformed into a winning team. As David grew in his leadership skills, stronger people surrounded him.

He was an awesome leader and a team builder, yet just like us - he was anything but perfect. He was flawed and failed, yet God chose to use him for His glory. I’m convinced that it was partially because of his inner circle that he became the great man we know him to be.

Be careful with those you surround yourself with. In my experience (sadly to say) some I allowed closest to me attacked me and ultimately abandoned me. Very few remained but they’ve proven themselves and to them I owe a great deal of gratitude. I wouldn’t have made it without them!
