We have a Firm Foundation

Lyrics from one of the greatest hymns every written say, “Could my tears forever flow, could my zeal no longer know, these for sin could not atone – Thou must save and Thou alone.”

Something known to be “rock solid” is able to withstand immense pressure.  In Matthew’s Gospel, chapter 7:24-27 it reads, 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” As believers, our lives are built upon the ROCK or foundation of Jesus.

As the church, we are built on the same foundation and the enemy cannot destroy it.  So, who or what are we to fear?  We can take refuge – we can hide behind the Rock and rest within the security He provides.

Even when life’s crazy and things are unsettled and unsure, we don’t cling such.  We establish our footing upon the Rock of Ages – the Rock that is higher and stronger and surer than we are.

Psalm 61:2 says, “From the ends of the earth I call to you,
    I call as my heart grows faint;
    lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
