DEVOTED

 DEVOTED

Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

We used to sing lyrics of a song that said, “holiness, holiness is what I long for…faithfulness, faithfulness is what You want from me.”

The dictionary defines the word devoted as “dedicated, loyal, committed.”  These words are used often in our world because we’re encouraged more and more to make time for “me” or #1!

However, God asks for something more permanent – FAITHFULNESS.  Whether convenient or not, we’re instructed in the Word to honor God and others.  This will most likely require sacrifice, and maybe even postponing our own agenda.  Yet, I am always amazed and inspired by dedicated married partners, the surrender of a missionary, or the selfless love of a mother.

Devotion is more than the few minutes it takes to read a book or listen to our favorite worship chorus.  “To devote” is a VERB that requires action.  We live out our dedication to Christ each day when we put aside our own agenda and are faithful to God’s will.  I’m grateful for the example in Jesus Christ who modeled this for us and stands ready to help us whenever we call on His name.
